27th May 2009 Hello, firstly: the Official Opening Celebration Day of the school has been postponed to a later time! Ida Clinckx had decided this in the last moment when she turnt back to Gambia at the beginning of April. The reason are the costs for this big festival (which was originally planned to take place on 8th April). So she prefered to spend the most recent donations for things which have more priority for the school than this big inauguration party right now. Meanwhile Ida Clinckx has been returned to Belgium for sewing more new school uniforms and for collecting things for the school. She also brought new photos with her :-) Now... here is a surprise for you! tada... the new schoolbus :-)
Here we would like to deeply thank Terry Amssoms (below) from Antwerp (Belgium) who had organized the Amahoro benefit concert in March this year (some infos are here) and who flew over to Gambia in April for handing over Ida Mia Clinckx the donated money! :-)
From Terry's Amahoro choir money and from the annually sponsered money of Mia's hometown mayor in Tielt-Winge the schoolbus could be bought! The children are waving to you and thank you all! :-)
Since it was Easter time, the children got new school uniforms...
... and little gifts :-)
Here you see the new teacher Ms Aja Fofang (red shirt)
who is teaching the small children of 3-4 years in the yellow classroom. She gets assisted by Ms Kumba Jalloki (white shirt, above) who is currently doing a stage at this school.
The 5 years old children get taught by Mr. Abdou Bojang in the blue classroom...
...and the 6 years old children by Mr. Peter Gomez in the red classroom. All children also get lessons in Outas (Arabic) now by Mr. Omar Camara who is coming to school for a few hours each week.
Every morning at 8:00am a woman helps out at cleaning the classrooms and preparing the food for the break. The school lessons start at 9:00am and end at 1:00pm.
The break is around 10:30 - 11:00am. During this break the children have bread and tea for free (will be replaced with cookies and milk when Mrs Clinckx goes back to the Gambia soon :-) Now last but not least... we would like to thank a very special young student lady from Beersel/Belgium. Her name is Tina :-)
Tina has read the Belgian newspaper articles about Ida Mia Clinckx's Gambia Projects (read here) and spontaneously decided to help :-) She collected children clothing from students in her school (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwinstituut in St.Genesius-Rode - OLV)
and flew over to The Gambia with 2 suitcases fully packed with clothing (and tea) for the Gambian children :-)
Here is Tina together with her adoptive parents and Ida in front of the school.
Also Tina and her Belgian school get a big THANK YOU waving from the children :-) More new photos as usual in the photo section :-) |
